Happy Mothers Day Part 2

Yesterday was all about hubbys mom. Today is all about mine. My mom grew up in small town Mississippi with 4 other sisters.  With 5 girls in the house, I know it was hard to provide – but grandma and grandpa did to the best of their abilities.  Most importantly – they had love.

Mom married my dad when she was really young and had me when she was 18.  I have a very young mom!!

Wedding day – young, very young.

My dad provided very well for us and mom was able to stay at home with me and spoil me rotten. She put me into pageants – where I excelled.  I was shy and, well, I am not anymore. lol  She put me into piano lessons, singing lessons, dance lessons, modeling lessons . . . ok, any type I could get into. lol

She and dad divorced and life became hectic.  I will not go into it, because it is not my story.  Lets just say… its been a long road. But I am happy for her and we are so proud of the place she is at today.

Mom has taught me a lot through the years.  Most importantly – how to act as a lady with poise.  This came in handy at my dads funeral when I had two of his siblings verbally attack me.  I held my head high and proceeded with the functions of the day. Of course, this made me appear cold and heartless because I “didnt grieve right or cry”.  Ummm, yeah, but I didnt let them see it.  That comes from the tough exterior my mom has taught me to wear when I need to protect myself.  There were many times when I saw her be tough – I learned from the best.image

I was taught to love and have compassion for others who are not in similar circumstances that I am.  She constantly was thinking of ways she could give back to people in our community (especially during Christmas) when I was younger.I want to do that too.  I want to start a non-profit for single mothers to help them when needed.  I cant really do anything with it now because I need to help myself first.  During her times of giving, she taught me to accept with grace.  This lesson has come in handy for me lately.  People give because they want to.  Its ok to accept the help they are giving.  I think this is going to help me when I do open my non-profit because I have been on both sides.

There are so many lessons that I could talk about.  Lets just say she is an awesome mom and we are blessed beyond belief to have her in our lives.  She lives about 10 hours from us, and we dont get to see her as often as we would like.  But we do spend time together and she absolutely adores our son.

You grandparents look like little kids getting married. Funny thing is–I found a picture of Rob and I on our wedding day, today when packing. Yikes! WE look like little kids getting married, too. Where have all the years gone? Sweet post!

I just realized I didn’t label that picture. Lol That’s my mom and dad in the wedding picture. They were just kids. 16 and 18 and I came along 2 yrs later. I wonder where the years have gone too. Lol. Thanks for your kind comments.

We were only 19 when we got married. I was remarking to him today what a blessing it is that we still love each other-even more than we got married. Better yet, we still like each other. In this day and age, that’s something to be thankful for . The nicest thing about him being off work is that he’s around SO much more than he used to be. I will miss that when he goes back to work.

Awww, now nice. Its so nice to hear of couples who are still together and actually like each other and spending time together. We have been together 13 years and never get tired of each others company. I could spend 24/7 with hubby and be content.

Me, too. I’m finding that is a rarity. So many wives complain when their husbands retire–not me. I’m going to do a happy dance when that day comes!

I was married before (son has no idea though) and I was just miserable. I stuck it out for 7 years. I left and eventually met my hubby and we are going on 13 yrs being together. I will be very happy too when he can retire and we can spend every day – all day together. He makes me laugh. Hes not bad to look at either!! lol
